Soaring Eagle is an outstanding lodge. Very high quality cottages were so well maintained, one would think they were built and furnished the year before. Beautifully maintained grounds abounding in green grass and flowering plants were most impressive. The view from Lodge grounds was stunning. Blue Cook inlet waters, the snow capped mountains in the background and Bald Eagles soaring by in profuse numbers - with a brilliant blue sky - are sights I will never forget.

I was amazed at the superb assortment of food and drink items in the refrigerator and pantry when I arrived Everything to get one started was there. In fact, a couple might not have to buy much food during their week stay. As a single person, I certainly did not. All fishing arrangements were excellent. All guides, boats, captains, etc were first class. John and his staff are extremely attentive to one's every need. If you need or want something, simply let it be known. It will be taken care of immediately. My week at Soaring Eagle in June 2010 was an unforgettable experience. It could not have been better.

I wanted to take this belated opportunity to thank you for the best vacation. This was a birthday present for my husband and ended up being a life’s adventure for both of us. You and your company treated us like VIP and the accommodations were 5 star and better. John you had everything laid out for first timers which was very much appreciated. Especially loved the plane ride into Katmai to see the bears and the kayaking trip, where we paddled about 6 feet from some orcas! We also did get to see Mt. McKinley - on 2 days!

Well, this email is extremely belated, but as I see Fall starting, I couldn’t let this summer go without thanking you for the amazing summer vacation my family and I had in Alaska. Soaring Eagle exceeded our expectations in every way, and you couldn’t have been a more perfect host! We had such a wonderful time, and saw absolutely everything we wanted to see and more. Of course, we talked to you often during our week with you, so you heard about all our adventures. And the trip up to Denali was great, too. We got to do everything we planned; flying over Mt. McKinley, ATVing, a raft trip, and an amazing full day trip through the park, where we saw wolves, bears, caribou, moose, fox, and all the little critters the park has to offer. All in all, it was exactly the summer we wanted. If we come again, we just want to add a little more fishing, so we have a better chance of catching something! My sisters, mom and I all want to tell you how grateful we are for your attention to detail and all your work on our behalf. We’ve been telling our friends about Soaring Eagle, and wearing our caps with pride! If we can ever manage a return trip, it will certainly be to stay with you once again.    This is just another testimonial from very happy and well satisfied clients.  We had a fantastic time and the accommodations were superb.
   When one makes a selection based on descriptions and photos from the internet you truly don’t know for sure what you are getting into.  The photos of Soaring Eagle make it look great, but in reality the cottages are far BETTER than the photos – Fantastic.
   You have thought of everything.  All of the plans for us worked out great.  It is relaxing to turn all of the planning over to you.  All we had to do was indicate what we wanted to do and you took care of the rest.  We appreciated you coming out to meet us each day as we returned to Soaring Eagle to see how our day went.  Of course each was unbelievably great.
   The fishing was more than we expected.  After an hour of halibut fishing our arms hurt and we were happy to switch to salmon.  Gary was a terrific guide for the stream fishing that we did.  We really wished we had more time to stream fish for the silvers and Dolly Varden.
   Joyce shows everyone the photos of the bear watching, her high point of the trip (even though she caught that 15 lb Silver).  I can’t believe that we were 10 to 15 feet from brown bears and they paid no attention to us.
   Food starter kit?  How can it be a starter kit when we didn’t eat it all?   We had come home from halibut fishing really tired and no restaurant appealed to us so the kabobs with rice and a salad came to the rescue on Joyce’s birthday.
   We have recommended Soaring Eagle to several and will continue to do so. In fact just this morning I referred you to our banker.  Overall this was a fantastic experience.  You truly made it one of the most memorable vacations and fishing trips we have ever had.  Thanks you for everything.

Hi John, we had such a wonderful vacation at Soaring Eagle Lodge and we owe it all to you. You planned a fabulous trip for us, everything was just perfect. We saw so much wildlife and brought home so much fish, it was just great. Of course our room at Soaring Eagle was great and the food you stocked it with was every thing we needed. You are so organized and it made for a stress free vacation. Perhaps the best testimonial came from my wife on our last day when we were out horseback riding. She turned to me and said, "Mark this is the best vacation we have ever been on!" That was saying a lot as our last three were to the Greek Islands, Italy and Argentina!

Hi Everyone,
As you can see from the attached photos, our fishing trip to Alaska was a great success. The photos include my sons Mark and David, and a friend from Florida, Tom Hallis. Every day was filled with excitement, including a great catch of Halibut, Lingcod, and rock fish on the first day (our daily limit), and two very large King Salmon (32 lb and 34 lb) on the last day. (The salmon fishing was my favorite.) David caught the largest fish of the week, an 80 lb Halibut that caused a lot of excitement as it had to be shot twice before being brought on board. Each of us carried back as extra luggage about 70 lb of frozen filets. In addition to the great fishing, we saw an abundance of wildlife including bald eagles, black and brown bears, mountain goats, sea otters, hump back whales, and several moose. We stayed at a wonderful lodge near Homer, Alaska called Soaring Eagle Lodge, owned by John Burns. The trip was truly awesome, and I really look forward to a future fishing trip to Alaska. Our trip was a spectacular two weeks. After moving from hotel to hotel the first week, we really needed the second week at Soaring Eagle to plant ourselves every night and get settled. Thank you very much for planning all of the details for everything. It would have been impossible to be organized and on time and prepared for each adventure leg of our trip without your help. Your cottages are extremely comfortable even without the spectacular view out our front door. They were clearly the best accommodations we stayed in throughout our trip and we really look forward to returning.

We were very impressed by your attention to details. The "cabin" was fabulous; very comfortable, well planned, and equipped. The food "starter kit" was ample and worked well for us even if we didn't use it all! (We hadn't realized most items would be double as there were four of us). We enjoyed the various outings and found all the guides to be exceptional - friendly, knowledgeable, and accomodating. Your daily itinerary sheets and other info. sheets were helpful and interesting. Allen and I wanted to thank you for planning our best vacation ever. We thought it would be impossible to top our Costa Rica fishing vacation we took last year, yet our Alaska vacation beat it easily.

The Soaring Eagle cottages were outstanding, cozy and immaculate. The view from the cottages was spectacular. Who would have ever thought that the Soaring Eagle Lodge actually had soaring eagles passing by many times a day. What a sight!

Our fishing trips and adventure trips were awesome. Our boat captains and guides, Eric, Ben and Rich were great. When we visit again, we'd request the same gang and accommodations.

We also appreciated the daily itineraries. Your attention to details is amazing. You have definitely found your calling.

The halibut and salmon we brought home was a bonus. We'll think of our trip every time we enjoy the fish for dinner.

The cottages are in awesome shape and came better equipped than a five star hotel ever could have. What a view!! Your choice of fishing charter made the whole experience even better yet, the professionalism of Eric and Elaine and Dale far out did any charter I have been on in the past, and I have been on quite a few. Deep Creek did a excellent job of processing our catch, we are all very happy with your choice. This was our first trip to Alaska but sure wont be our last. Thanks for a wonderful time.

P.S. Next trip you will have to share how you were able to have the Eagles fly by on a regular bases.That was great. Looking forward to our next adventure

Just wanted you to know what a wonderful experience I had staying at your lodge last summer. This was my first trip to Alaska but not my last. I could not believe the breathtaking view from my cottage. The snow capped mountains are extremely impressive. The entire setting is so pristine.

The highlight of my trip was the early morning silver salmon fishing on Deep Creek along with all the help I needed to learn how to catch a fish.

I was amazed at all of the beauty in Alaska. The glaciers, river and wild flowers, moose, art galleries and great restaurants all made the trip truly enjoyable. I especially enjoyed the trip to Halibut Cove and the bird sanctuary at Gull Island.

Frequently vacation plans are made with high expectations that in reality are not met. We were pleased that this was not the case during our vacation spent with you at Soaring Eagle. We had the added bonus of being there when the fireweed was in full bloom adding to the beauty of the great landscaping around the cottages.
