The Best Travel Credit CardsTraveling to Alaska is a large, often once in a lifetime opportunity. We have found some credit cards that make this trip more accessible and offer rewards while doing so!
Our results are based on the following: interest rates, reward rates, spending categories, yearly bonus, and intro bonuses.
Alaska Airlines Credit Card
Alaska Airlines credit card is by far my favorite! As someone who is always traveling, I get to earn a mile per dollar spent (and more on AK Airline’s transactions!). $12,500 miles will get you a round trip ticket somewhere!
Ongoing benefits of the Visa Signature® card include Alaska’s Famous Companion Fare from $121 ($99 base fare plus taxes and fees from $22) every year on your account anniversary for Alaska flights booked on alaskaair.com with no blackout dates. There are also many perks spread throughout the year, such as Black Friday deals, PFD date deals (October), refer a friend deals, and buy some, get some miles deals. A good example is below, which is a deal that was emailed to me today as a cardholder:
So, if you love to travel and save money while you do it, the Alaska Airlines credit card is the way to go. By signing up for this card and getting your bonus miles, you could even qualify for free airfare to see us here at Soaring Eagle Lodge!
Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card
Another excellent card offer I’ve experienced is the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card. The intro bonus for this card is 50,000 miles- which is enough to make it to Alaska! There is an annual fee associated with this card, but it’s $100, and we think that’s a steal! There are ongoing reward bonuses with this card for each ladder of spending (after $3000 for example).
Additionally, you receive a free TSA pre-check application fee—who likes waiting in lines? Not us.
No blackout dates with this card & no foreign transaction fees! Where do we sign up?
Wells Fargo Propel American Express
Rewards Rate is unbeatable and includes a 30,000 point bonus for signing up!
With this card, you earn points on all things travel.
Earn 3X points for eating out and ordering in
Earn 3X points for gas stations, rideshares, and transit
Earn 3X points for travel including flights, hotels, homestays and car rentals
Earn 1X points on other purchases
These points can be exchanged for travel excursions, airfare, and hotel bookings. No annual fee and 0% APR for 12 months on qualifying purchases. Sounds like a heck of a deal to me!
Discover it Miles
The intro offer for this card is 0% interest for 14 months! You can take a vacation and pay it off in that time! Besides that, Discover will match all the miles you’ve earned at the end of your first year, automatically. For example, if you earn 20,000 Miles, you get 40,000 Miles. That’s $500 towards your travel!
You’ll also earn unlimited 1.5x Miles for every dollar spent on all purchases all with no annual fee.
Additionally, no blackout dates – fly any airline, stay at any hotel and redeem your miles as a statement credit towards travel purchases.
As you can see, there are many options for those who want to travel AND save. Do not let your budget stop you from your dream vacation; you CAN have it all!
